Cathaoirleach Cllr. Ciaran Brogan, on behalf of the elected members of Donegal County Council welcomes today’s announcement of €2 million under the ERDF Designated Urban Centres Grant Scheme 2014 - 2020 for specific projects for Letterkenny.

The specific projects include €750,000 for the Joe Bonner Link Road, €1 million for a new Social Enterprise Building and €250,000 to improve town centre linkages through the upgrade of footpaths and enhanced walking infrastructure.

Speaking from Government Press Centre in the Department of An Taoiseach, Merrion Street, Dublin where the announcement is taking place this afternoon, Cllr. Brogan stated that “these pieces of infrastructure have always been a priority for Donegal County Council and the criteria set out in this funding measure meant that there had to be a focus on improving town centre linkages”.

He added “the elected members in the Letterkenny Municipal District have worked very closely with the Councils executive in developing these proposals and securing the subsequent funding and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all involved.

The aim of the ERDF funding is to improve the urban environment and revitalise urban centres and this funding will go a long way to improving linkages between the new and established town centres in Letterkenny and will see specific improvements to areas along Port Road, Lower Main Street and the Oliver Plunkett Road”.
